English Dept 2018 Summer Reading & Requirements

Summer Reading Testing Dates:
June 20: 11:00-1:00 (during Tablet Training)
July 18: 11:00-1:00 (during Tablet Training)
Aug. 9: 7:00-3:00 (during Orientation--students may test when they come for their orientation session)

* All students are welcome to test on any of the above testing dates.

Deadline to complete summer reading testing via the STM AR Program:
Seniors: August 9
Juniors: August 10
Sophomores: August 13
Freshmen: August 14

NOTE: Testing for 1st quarter AR (15pts. required) begins August 15 for everyone. All testing done before August 15 counts as summer reading.

Note: Students are required to take Accelerated Reader tests on all assigned and choice novels.

Additional reading opportunity:
During the summer, all students may earn an additional grade at the start of the year by earning a specified number of AR points in addition to their required reading. Books may be found using AR Bookfinder.

For a bonus 50/50 grade: earn 10 AR points through summer reading
For a bonus 100/100 grade: earn 20 AR points through summer reading

Please note:
Points earned from required summer reading do not count toward this bonus grade.

    • These additional/bonus points will be added to the core 15 points students will be required to earn during first quarter; they will not count towards students’ mandatory first-quarter AR reading requirement.

Important: Students may not test on books that appear on our Exclusion List. Current movies made from books are automatically on the exclusion list when released.
