Dear Parents,
First, I would like to thank you for your support and understanding as we, as a St. Thomas More community, responded to the unexpected invasion of COVID-19 in March. I am very proud of the way our STM students, parents, faculty, and staff handled the demands we were faced with to protect everyone, while continuing to educate our students during these unprecedented circumstances. As we finalize preparations to reopen in August 2020 our first priority is the health and safety of our students and employees. Rest assured, we have been working diligently to ensure their safety.
Our desire is to return to school as normal (traditional) with enhanced safety and cleaning procedures. However, our learning environment will depend on which phase the State of Louisiana mandates for our community. Thus, we must be proactive and prepare for alternative methods of educating our students if, and when, circumstances change throughout the year. We fully understand your varied concerns about health and safety, distance learning, the importance of face-to-face instruction, parents needing to work, the economy, and all the other unexpected consequences of not being in school in a traditional method. If for some reason we cannot be in a traditional school situation, our goal is to find the best way to have our students safely in the building, as frequently as possible, while ensuring the health and well-being of all.
To this end, we have created the 2020-21 St. Thomas More Catholic High School Reopening Plan. This plan includes an overview of health and safety, instruction, attendance, student/staff illness, transportation, nutritional services, and forms of communication.
Many of our stakeholders have inquired about weekly school Masses. Our Catholic identity remains a top priority. As we did in the spring, we will continue weekly Masses via live stream to the classrooms until large group gatherings are allowed.
I encourage you to frequently visit our website and follow our social media for up-to-date and accurate information regarding school procedures.
Thank you for your continued support and positivity as we strive to do what is best for ALL students and employees during these challenging times.
